Mona RyndersDr Prue Talbot received her Ph.D. in Biology from the University of Houston, Texas. As a pioneer in reproduction research, she has studied various aspects of fertilization in mammals including ovulation of oocytes from follicles, oocyte pick-up by the oviduct, capacitation, the acrosome reaction, fertilization of oocytes, the cortical reaction, and the cortical granule envelope. She has published more than 130 peer-reviewed papers in fertilization and stem cell field. Her laboratory is currently developing bioinformatics tools to study drug toxicity and to quantify cell processes including migration, apoptosis, and cell adhesion of mouse and human embryonic stem (ES) cells. Dr Talbot is the recipient of the Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Mentoring Undergraduate Research and is the Director of the UCR Stem Cell Center.

Rachel received her B.S. degree in Biological Sciences from UCI where she graduated with honors. She is currently a Ph.D. student in the Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology (CMDB) graduate program at UCR and studies the effects of electronic cigarette refill fluids, aerosols and flavoring chemicals on human embryonic and adult lung cell health. Rachel has been the recipient of an NIH pre-doctoral fellowship, two Graduate Research Mentoring Program awards (funded by UCR) and the Cornelius Hopper award (funded by TRDRP) to carry out her work with electronic cigarettes. Since entering the CMDB graduate program at UCR, she has published several papers dealing with the development of assays for accessing cytotoxicity using human embryonic stem cells and human pulmonary fibroblasts. She subsequently used these assays to identify flavoring chemicals in some electronic cigarette products that are highly cytotoxic to embryonic and adult lung cells.

Barbara Davis - Manager Assistant

Barbara Davis is a 6th year Ph.D. Student in the Cell, Molecular, and Developmental Biology (CMDB) Graduate Program at UCR. She also did her undergraduate work at UCR, where she was awarded the Circle of Science Award and was the recipient of the Chancellors Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Research. Barbara graduated summa cum laude and received her B.S. in the field of Biology. During her first year as a graduate student she received a TRDRP Cornelius Hopper Diversity Award as well as the prestigious National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship. Barbara has been a member of Talbot lab for 8 years and during that time has had several publications related to electronic cigarette research. She is currently continuing her work by evaluating the effects of electronic cigarette use on embryonic development.
